Live COVID-19 updates: U.S. COVID-19 cases surpass 12 mln

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DUBLIN -- Ireland reported 344 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the country's caseload to 70,143, according to the Irish Department of Health.

Four more people died from COVID-19, bringing the death toll in the country to 2,022, said the department in a statement.

NEW YORK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 12 million on Saturday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 12,019,960, with a total of 255,414 deaths, as of 3:27 p.m. local time (2027 GMT), according to the CSSE tally.

LJUBLJANA -- The COVID-19 death toll in Slovenia has passed the 1,000 mark, showed official figures on Saturday.

The country's death toll rose by 31 in the last 24 hours to 1,026, while the total number of cases increased by 1,690 to 64,123.

SANTIAGO -- Chile's Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 1,550 new daily cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total caseload to 539,143.

Meanwhile, the number of daily COVID-19 fatalities came to 27, raising the death toll to 15,030.

CAIRO -- The total number of COVID-19 infections confirmed in Iran rose on Saturday to 841,308, after 12,931 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, Iraq's death toll approached 12,000.

Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing that between Friday and Saturday, 431 deaths of COVID-19 patients were registered, taking the total death toll of the epidemic in Iran to 44,327 so far.

ANKARA -- Turkey confirmed 5,532 new COVID-19 patients on Saturday, raising the total number of cases in the country to 440,805, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, 135 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 12,219.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Health Ministry reported on Saturday 1,786 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide infections to 533,555.

The new cases included 412 in the capital Baghdad, 275 in Kirkuk, 176 in Duhok, 169 in Nineveh, 119 in Sulaimaniyah, and 114 in Najaf, the ministry said in a statement. Enditem
