BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil has registered 376 new deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 168,989, the Ministry of Health said Saturday.

Meanwhile, the number of infections went up by 32,622, bringing the nationwide tally to 6,052,786, the ministry said.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.

All of the nine new cases were recent returnees detected in managed isolation, while no new case was detected in the community, said the ministry.

OTTAWA -- Some provinces in Canada reported their record single-day increases in COVID-19 cases on Saturday, reported CTV.

As of Saturday afternoon, Canada reported a total of 324,375 COVID-19 cases and 11,397 deaths, CTV's coronavirus tracker said.

Ontario reported a record daily increase of 1,588 cases on Saturday, surpassing the province's previous single-day high of 1,581 cases on Nov. 14.

BEIJING -- China's National Health Commission said Sunday that it received reports of 17 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, including three domestically transmitted and 14 imported cases.

Of the domestically transmitted cases, two were reported in Inner Mongolia and one in Shanghai, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported on Saturday, the commission said.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the African continent has reached 2,043,462, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Saturday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 49,099 as of Saturday afternoon.

DUBLIN -- Ireland reported 344 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the country's caseload to 70,143, according to the Irish Department of Health.

Four more people died from COVID-19, bringing the death toll in the country to 2,022, said the department in a statement.

NEW YORK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 12 million on Saturday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 12,019,960, with a total of 255,414 deaths, as of 3:27 p.m. local time (2027 GMT), according to the CSSE tally.

LJUBLJANA -- The COVID-19 death toll in Slovenia has passed the 1,000 mark, showed official figures on Saturday.

The country's death toll rose by 31 in the last 24 hours to 1,026, while the total number of cases increased by 1,690 to 64,123. Enditem
