Live COVID-19 updates: Bangladesh cases rise to 447,341, death toll reaches 6,388

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,060 new COVID-19 cases and 38 new deaths on Sunday, making the tally at 447,341 and death toll at 6,388, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 13,870 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 362,428 including 2,076 new recoveries on Sunday, said the DGHS.

KABUL -- Afghanistan reported 203 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising its national tally to 44,706, including 6,927 active cases, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

"Laboratories conducted 1,307 tests during the past 24 hours, out of the total tests 203 were positive COVID-19 cases in eight provinces of Afghanistan's 34 provinces," the ministry said in a statement.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,096 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Sunday, bringing the national total to 54,775.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that six of the new cases are imported while 1,090 are local transmissions.

TEHRAN -- Iran's Health Ministry reported 13,053 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the total nationwide infections to 854,361.

The pandemic has so far claimed 44,802 lives in Iran, up by 475 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education during her daily briefing.

A total of 603,445 people have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals, while 5,796 remain in intensive care units, Lari added.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,360 within one day to 497,668, with the death toll adding by 110 to 15,884, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, 4,233 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 418,188.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia reported 21 more COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the national tally to 629, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

The latest confirmed cases were locally transmitted or reported in Selenge province in the country's north, said the NCCD in a statement.

BEIJING -- China's National Health Commission has released a guideline on the COVID-19 prevention and control work at blood donation stations to ensure the safety of health workers and donors as well as secure blood supplies in autumn and winter.

Standard prevention measures should be applied to the entire donation process, says the guideline, detailing an array of measures for the protection of the blood station staff, including medics, laboratory personnel and workers who distribute and transport the donated blood.

MOSCOW -- Russia has recorded 24,581 more COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, slightly down from the all-time high of 24,822 a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Sunday.

The daily increase has been above 24,000 for three consecutive days, according to data provided by the center. Enditem
