SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sales grew last month as people increased online shopping amid the worry about the COVID-19 pandemic, a government report showed Monday.

Revenue by online and offline retailers increased 8.4 percent in October from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The online sales advanced 17.1 percent in October from a year earlier, maintaining a double-digit growth.

Sales by offline retailers grew 2.1 percent in October, after rising 1.0 percent in September. The offline sales continued to fall from February to August as people refrained from outside activity such as shopping.

Revenue of department stores expanded 4.2 percent thanks to various sales events, while the sales by convenience stores and discount outlets went up 2.9 percent and 2.3 percent respectively. Enditem
