JAKARTA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The unemployed population in Indonesia was up by 2.67 million people due to COVID-19 to 9.77 million in August, or from 5.23 percent to 7.07 percent compared to the same month in 2020, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati told a press conference Monday.

She pointed out that the increasing unemployment rate would have the implication of reducing the rate of the people's welfare but the social assistance from the government has helped overcome the problem.

"This is the challenge that we have to solve," said the minister.

According to her, the decreasing rate of welfare was reflected by more people who moved their jobs from the formal sector to the informal one. Enditem
