SOFIA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's COVID-19 death toll has risen to 3,069 after a record high of 189 new COVID-19 deaths was reported in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said Tuesday.

The previous daily record of 152 deaths was reported last Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the number of confirmed infections has reached 124,966, up 3,146 over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 1,702 people have recovered from the disease, raising the total recovery number to 38,226, the ministry said.

Currently, 6,270 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized with 399 in intensive care units, it added.

The numbers of confirmed COVID-19 infections and deaths in Bulgaria have more than doubled in the last three weeks. Health Minister Kostadin Angelov on Monday advised tightening anti-epidemic measures in a bid to take control of the situation but the proposal is yet to be discussed by the Council of Ministers.
