BAMYAN, Afghanistan -- At least 14 civilians were killed and 45 others wounded in the twin explosions at a market place in Bamyan city, capital of Afghanistan's central Bamyan province on Tuesday, a provincial government spokesman confirmed.

"The explosions came in a very short span of time in a crowded market place roughly at 4:30 p.m. local time. The casualties were shifted to a provincial hospital," spokesman Latif Azimi told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Explosions)

MOSCOW -- A U.S. warship was tracked down and stopped by a Russian navy destroyer on Tuesday after it had violated Russia's territorial waters, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The USS John McCain destroyer was operating in the Sea of Japan for several days and violated Russia's territorial waters at 6:17 a.m. Moscow time (0317 GMT) on Tuesday after going 2 km beyond the maritime border into the Peter the Great Gulf, said the ministry. (Russia-U.S.-Warship)

VILNIUS -- The Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of Ingrida Simonyte, the leader of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) electoral list, as the country's new prime minister.

Sixty-two members of parliament voted in favor of Simonyte's candidacy, while ten voted against and 41 abstained. (Lithuania-Parliament-PM)

HANOI -- As many as 24 cases of Whitmore's disease including four deaths from the disease have been recorded in central Vietnam's Quang Tri province, local media reported on Tuesday.
