Vietnam seizes over 20 kg drugs hidden in cross-border delivery parcels

HO CHI MINH CITY, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The customs and police forces of Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City have seized over 20 kg of drugs hidden in cross-border delivery parcels, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The drugs, which were seized on Tuesday, include heroin, ecstasy, marijuana and crystal methamphetamine. They were hidden in carton boxes, foot massage machine and gift boxes placed in nine parcels, the news agency reported.

Among the drugs, more than 700 grams of heroin were found in parcels registered for shipping to Australia from Ho Chi Minh City, said the report.

The local authorities are further investigating the case, said the report.

As stipulated in Vietnamese laws, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces the death penalty. Enditem
