Lao gov't urges vigilance against possible 2nd wave of COVID-19

VIENTIANE, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Lao Ministry of Health emphasized the need for continued vigilance and strict application of preventive measures in efforts to avoid a second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Lao Ministry of Health, Phonepaserd Sayamoungkhoun, said at a press briefing held in the Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday that the Lao people nationwide should continue their efforts in implementing preventive measures in order to prevent a second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The official noted that it was essential that every person and all relevant authorities strictly abide by the new normal guidelines and health protection rules laid down by the government.

The Lao government continues to closely monitor people entering the country, demanding appropriate travel documents from them and the body temperature check for every person.

On Tuesday, 1,645 people entered Laos from international border checkpoints.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reported that it has been monitoring 2,495 people at 33 accommodation centers across the country.

As of Wednesday, Laos has tested 76,673 people for COVID-19 with 39 cases confirmed to be positive, and 24 patients have recovered from the coronavirus epidemic.
