NEW DELHI, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has criticized the federal government's move of authorizing post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of AYUSH to be trained to perform surgical procedures, voicing concerns over mixing the systems of medicine in India.
AYUSH, or Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, represents the indigenous alternative medicine systems in India, which established a government ministry for its development in 2014.
The association in a statement issued on Tuesday described the decision by the Ministry of AYUSH as a "retrograde step of mixing the systems," while demanding the withdrawal of a notification by the ministry's Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) saying the move was a "blatant attempt at mixopathy of medical education and practice."
"The entire modern medical profession of the nation feels betrayed by the level of violation and encroachment by the CCIM," said the statement. "IMA demands withdrawal of the notification of the amendment regulations of Postgraduate Ayurveda Education." Enditem
