NEW DELHI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,309,787 on Friday as 43,082 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.
According to the data, the death toll mounted to 135,715 as 492 COVID-19 patients died since Thursday morning.
This is the first time in the past few days when the number of deaths per day fell below 500-mark.
Delhi has seen a sudden spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases. The city reported 5,475 new cases and 91 deaths in the last 24 hours.
There are still 455,555 active cases in the country, while 8,718,517 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment, added the ministry's latest data.
Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Thursday said that schools would remain shut till a vaccine is available to ensure the safety of students.
The COVID vaccine -- Covaxin, which is being developed by India's biotechnology company Bharat Biotech International Limited, entered the third phase of trial on last Friday. Enditem
