DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police said on Friday they have shot dead two suspects in an attempted armed robbery.

Ramadani Kingai, the Kinondoni regional police commander, said the suspects were gunned down on Thursday while they were attempting to rob at Kimara Luguruni area, on the outskirts of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Kingai told a news conference that both of the killed suspects were former policemen, who were fired from the Tanzania police force years back after they were implicated in conspiring with criminals.

The two former policemen got involved in armed robberies in various places of the business capital, said Kingai.

He said police have launched a manhunt for the other two suspects who had run away after an exchange of fire. Enditem
