8 states contribute 69 pct of new COVID-19 cases in India

NEW DELHI, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- India's federal health ministry Saturday said over 69 percent of the new COVID-19 cases were reported from eight states in a span of 24 hours.

"Present contribution of active caseload to India's total positive cases is 4.86 percent," the ministry said. "69.04 percent of the daily new cases are contributed by eight states -- Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh."

According to the ministry, Maharashtra leads the daily tally with 6,185 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours. Delhi has recorded 5,482 cases, while Kerala follows with 3,966 new cases.

Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in India with a total of 1,808,550 COVID-19 cases and 46,898 deaths recorded so far. It is followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh with 881,086 and 866,438 cases respectively.

On Saturday morning the federal health ministry said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 9,351,109 and the death toll has risen to 136,200. Enditem
