CAIRO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Turkey reported 30,103 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the highest daily number, and the total number of COVID-19 symptomatic patients in the country stood at 487,912. Meanwhile, Iran's tally of the confirmed cases hit 935,799.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Turkey rose by 182 to 13,373, while the total recoveries climbed to 396,227 after 3,611 more patients recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkish people were locked down at home for the second weekend as part of the partial curfew imposed to curb the steep increase in the COVID-19 cases.

In the largest Turkish city of Istanbul, markets and groceries were filled with customers who were doing some final shopping before the lockdown started at 8 p.m. local time.

In mid-November, the government reimposed partial lockdowns on weekends, closed restaurants and cafes, introduced new working hours for businesses, and suspended all activities of local gaming halls, clubs, tea gardens, as well as football fields across the country.

Iran's Health Ministry reported 13,402 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total nationwide infections to 935,799.

The pandemic has so far claimed 47,486 lives in Iran, up by 391 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education during her daily briefing.

A total of 648,831 people have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals, while 5,865 remain in intensive care units, Lari added.

Iraq's health ministry registered 1,606 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide infections to 548,821.

The ministry also reported 33 new deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 12,200 and the total recoveries have reached 478,537.

In Saudi Arabia, 220 cases were confirmed, bringing the total number to 356,911, and 13 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 5,870. The total recoveries reached 346,023.

The Israeli health ministry reported 824 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number in the country to 334,626.

The death toll reached 2,845, with six new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 278 to 276, out of 495 patients currently hospitalized.

The number of recoveries reached 321,857, with 511 new recoveries, while the number of active cases rose to 9,924.

On Sunday, high school classes in Israel will be resumed in cities and towns defined as "green" or "yellow," with a low morbidity level of the virus.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported 1,252 new coronavirus infections and two more death, bringing its total COVID-19 cases to 166,502 and its death toll to 569. The tally of recoveries in the UAE rose by 741 to 153,449.

Morocco announced 4,412 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the North African country since March 2 to 349,688.

The number of recoveries from the coronavirus in Morocco increased to 298,574 after 4,538 more were added, while the death toll rose by 50 to 5,739 the ministry of health said in a statement.

Jordan reported 3,108 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 210,709. The death doll reached 2,626, with 56 new deaths. The total number of recovered cases hit 142,710, with 2,373 new recoveries.

Kuwait reported 319 new COVID-19 cases and one more death, raising the tally of infections to 142,195 and the death toll to 875 in the country.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry also announced the recovery of 586 more patients, taking the total recoveries in the country to 135,889.

The Qatari health ministry announced 227 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 138,477.

Meanwhile, 281 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 135,651, while the fatalities remained 237 for the fourth consecutive day, according to a ministry statement. Enditem
