LIMA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people died on Sunday and 11 more were injured when a public transport van carrying 18 people fell into a ravine in the northwestern Peruvian province of Pataz, local authorities reported.

Nuri Adith Martinez, the subprefect of Pataz, explained that the accident occurred early on Sunday in an area about 779 kilometers north of the Peruvian capital.

The injured people received first aid from residents of towns near the scene and were later transferred to hospitals.

According to preliminary reports from the Peruvian police, the vehicle was transporting people who had been to a party in the town of Chagual.

There are frequent accidents of this type in Peru due to the country's rugged terrain and many deep ravines along the highways connecting towns in the Andes Mountains. Enditem
