SUVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A Fijian mobile phone company launched on Monday a mobile wallet that gives Fijians increased access to cashless payment.
According to the local news website Fijivillage, MyCash, the mobile wallet launched by Digicel, allows Fijian customers to send and receive money at no fees locally, receive money from abroad, make payments via QR codes, and pay bills.
The company said that the mobile wallet is available to download at no cost, and it is zero-rated, so it will not consume mobile data from the customer's plan when using it.
Customers will only need to provide their phone number and choose a pin code to protect their account when registering.
Cashless payments through mobile phones is becoming the new fashionable way to pay in Fiji rapidly.
In March this year, Jacks of Fiji, one of Fiji's biggest retailers, partnered with the mobile phone company Vodafone Fiji to offer Fijians an option of paying for items through the M-Paisa QR, a mode of payment in Fiji in a move towards a cashless society amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2017, payments made by the Fijian government departments were switched to be done electronically without issuing cheques. Enditem
