JAKARTA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday condemned the recent terrorist attack in a remote village in the country's eastern province of Central Sulawesi that killed at least four people.

"I strongly condemn inhuman and uncivilized acts, which caused four of our brothers to die in the violence that took place in Sigi district, Central Sulawesi," he said in a video uploaded to the Presidential Secretariat's official YouTube channel on Monday afternoon.

Authorities believed that members of the Mujahidin Indonesia Timur (MIT), a terrorist group that supports ISIL, were the attackers that killed four members of the same Christian family in Lembantongoa village, Sigi district on Friday.

"This barbaric act is clearly aimed at creating provocation and terror in the midst of society. It wants to destroy the unity and the harmony among the nation's citizens," the president said.

The president expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and said the government has sent aid to them.

A joint security force has been deployed to hunt down the militant group's members who are believed to be hiding in the forest in the region. Enditem
