Live COVID-19 updates: Britain records another 12,330 cases with 205 deaths

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LONDON -- Another 12,330 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,629,657, according to official figures released Monday.

The coronavirus-related deaths in Britain rose by 205 to 58,448, the data showed.

The figures came as British Environment Secretary George Eustice warned Monday that it may be as late as "next summer" until "we can all start to get back to normal", depending on a vaccine.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the African continent has reached 2,163,284 as of Monday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 51,708.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Federal Reserve Board on Monday approved the extension of four of its emergency COVID-19 lending facilities until March 31, 2021.

"The extension, which has also been approved by the Treasury Department, will facilitate planning by potential facility participants and provide certainty that the facilities will continue to be available through the first quarter of 2021 to help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic," the Fed said in a statement.

KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government on Monday reported that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country surpassed 1,500.

With 29 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the total deaths from COVID-19 in Nepal reached 1,508, according to Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population.

Total COVID-19 cases in Nepal reached 233,452 with 1,474 new cases in the last 24 hours, the ministry added.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Health Ministry reported on Monday 2,114 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 552,549.

It also reported 34 new deaths and 1,771 more recovered cases in the country, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 12,258 and the total recoveries to 482,674.

BEIJING -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members have joined hands to fight against the virus since the outbreak of COVID-19, Li expressed the hope that all parties would implement the outcomes of the recently held SCO summit and steadily advance the SCO's cooperation agendas so as to open up new vistas for its development in the post-pandemic era.

Li made the remarks in Beijing while addressing the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which was held via video link.

YANGON -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in Myanmar has increased to 90,713 as of Monday, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

A total of 1,227 more COVID-19 confirmed cases were reported in the country. Enditem
