BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- Canada continued seeing sharply increased COVID-19 cases, with a total of 382,812 COVID-19 cases and 12,195 fatalities as of Tuesday evening, according to CTV.

More than 6,100 new cases were reported across the country on Tuesday.

NEW YORK -- U.S. COVID-19 deaths surpassed 270,000 on Tuesday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

With the national caseload topping 13.6 million, the death toll across the United States rose to 270,003 as of 5:26 p.m. local time (2226 GMT), according to the CSSE data.

SANTIAGO -- In a worst case scenario of a COVID-19 second wave hitting Chile, officials estimate the healthcare system may see as many as 9,560 new daily cases of infection, a leading daily said on Tuesday.

By January, Chile could be looking at three different situations: 3,026 new daily cases; 6,608 daily cases, similar to the second waves currently experienced in Europe; or 9,560 daily cases, the daily El Mercurio reported, citing Health Minister Enrique Paris.

TIANJIN -- North China's Tianjin Municipality found no new cases of COVID-19 from its latest round of nucleic acid testing involving six groups of people in the Binhai New Area, local authorities said Tuesday.

The testing, which took place between Nov. 28 and 30, involved 493,745 samples and all tests came back negative, according to the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control headquarters of the Binhai New Area.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent has reached 2,170,843, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Tuesday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 51,915 as of Tuesday afternoon, while 1,840,575 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered. Enditem
