BELGRADE, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Serbia is interested in improving bilateral ties with the United Kingdom (UK), Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and other officials told visiting UK Minister for European Neighborhood and the Americas Wendy Morton during meetings on Wednesday.

According to government press release, Brnabic and Morton discussed possibilities of improving cooperation between the two countries "not only in the field of infrastructure and economy, but also in the field of environmental protection, which is emerging as an increasingly important topic, not only in Serbia, but also worldwide."

Brnabic expressed confidence that Serbia will continue to build strategic relations with the UK and that a trade agreement between the two countries will be a step forward in future economic cooperation.

Morton told Brnabic that the UK is ready to further its cooperation with Serbia in the fight against coronavirus.

At a separate meeting with Morton, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said Serbia is interested in deepening bilateral relations and cooperation with the UK, and that a more intensive high-level political dialogue would contribute to that.

"Our interest is for the relations between Serbia and the United Kingdom to be strengthened, both politically and economically," Selakovic said, noting that it is necessary to direct efforts towards the improvement of economic and trade cooperation, where there are untapped potentials.

Selakovic also thanked the UK for its support in Serbia's European integration efforts, saying that "membership in the EU (European Union) remains our strategic commitment and one of the most important foreign policy goals."

The visiting UK Foreign Office minister noted that good relations between Serbia and neighboring countries are key for the future of the region.

"We look forward to continuing bilateral cooperation on common priorities and challenges, including the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which the UK will host in 2021," she added. Enditem
