WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President-elect Joe Biden reportedly plans to keep Christopher Wray as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The Democrat was not removing Wray unless sitting President Donald Trump fires him, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing a senior Biden official.

There had been reports that Trump would oust Wray, who has been serving as FBI director since August 2017, after the 2020 election.

The director of the FBI, the country's primary federal law enforcement agency, is appointed for a single ten-year term by the U.S. president and confirmed by the Senate.

Trump nominated Wray for the post in June 2017 to succeed James Comey, whom the president fired a month earlier.

U.S. states are moving to certify Biden's victory in the White House race this year, while Trump has refused to concede as his team is still trying to challenge the results. Enditem
