Live COVID-19 updates: France reports 14,064 new cases, 310 deaths

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PARIS -- France reported on Wednesday 14,064 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, up from 8,083 a day before, while pressure on the hospital system continued to ease, according to data released by health authorities.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country now stood at 2,224,635, the fifth highest tally in the world.

SANTIAGO -- Chile registered 1,035 new cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the past 24 hours, for a cumulative total of 553,898 cases since the start of the outbreak here, Chilean Minister of Health Enrique Paris said in a statement Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 773 presented symptoms.

SHENZHEN -- The southern Chinese metropolis of Shenzhen reported one new asymptomatic case of COVID-19, local health authorities announced Wednesday.

The case was a close contact of an imported COVID-19 case confirmed Tuesday, the municipal health commission said.

RABAT -- Morocco announced on Wednesday 4,346 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the North African country since March 2 to 364,190.

The number of recoveries from the coronavirus in Morocco increased to 314,237 after 4,044 more were added, while the death toll rose by 70 to 5,985 the ministry of health said in a statement.

BERLIN -- The number of daily COVID-19 deaths in Germany increased by 487 in 24 hours and reached a new record on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll in the country to 17,123, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said.

The number of new daily COVID-19 infections also remained high and increased by 17,270, now totaling over 1.08 million cases, according to the RKI. Germany is currently in an extended lockdown until Dec. 20, which includes strict contact restrictions and the closure of all restaurants and bars. Enditem
