BRATISLAVA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Slovak basketball premiership returned on Wednesday after a two-week pause caused by a league-wide coronavirus quarantine and the subsequent fixtures of the national team that is trying to advance to the World Championship qualifiers.
Handlova managed to break a three-game losing streak and move up from the bottom, while the Levice Patriots won their fifth in a row with Lucenec still biting at their heels in third place.
The Levice Patriots are on a major roll in the Slovak Basketball League, winning also their fifth consecutive game by dominating the Prievidza Basketball Club by more than 30 points, 93-62.
The visitors were hoping for a more thrilling finish after losing their previous two matches by only a couple of points.
But the Patriots, having lost their previous encounter with Prievidza, were out for revenge and started putting their opponents under pressure right from the get-go. Their lead gradually grew and Prievidza had no chance of rallying.
"I am happy about the energy my guys put into the game after a long pause. They fought until the final minute. Even the guys on the bench were given a chance to show off their skills and they also played aggressively as they were expected to," said the coach of Levice Michal Madzin.
With an identical 8-4 record, Lucenec is breathing down Levice's neck in third place in the standings.
In other matches of the round, BKM Lucenec beat Inter Bratislava 68-59 and MBK Banik Handlova edged off Iskra Svit 78-72. Enditem
