BRATISLAVA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Dunajska Streda's hope of return to the top of the standings in the Slovak football premiership Fortuna Liga fell short on Wednesday as it lost 1-0 to a 10-man Sered.
Dunajska Streda was tied with first-ranked Slovan Bratislava with 35 points before the match, which was supposed to be played a month ago but got postponed due to Sered's coronavirus quarantine.
The visitors created plenty of good scoring chances in the first half but all of them were denied by Sered's excellent goalkeeper from Nigeria Mathew Yakubu who was assisted by Lady Luck after Danylo Beskorovainyi's header in the 27th minute hit the goalpost.
The decisive moment came early in the second half when Sered's midfielder Adam Morong jumped high into the air on a corner kick and headed the ball straight into Dunajska Streda's net.
Things got interesting in the 69th minute after Sered's striker Milos Lacny got into a tussle with an opponent and was shown a red card, making it a lot easier for Dunajska Streda to tie things up, but Yakubu's streak of great saves continued until the very end. Enditem
