MAPUTO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican government plans to build more than 1,500 houses for low-income citizens by 2024, as part of a recently created housing project, said Cecilia Chamutota, the country's deputy minister of public works, housing and water resources, on Thursday.

In the first phase, about 4 million U.S. dollars will be invested in the construction of 300 houses in Maputo, the Northern Nampula and Cabo Delgado, said the deputy minister following the inauguration of 30 houses of the project in Manhica district, Maputo.

The first houses are expected to be granted to public workers and young people in their early stages of career, who earn about five times the minimum wage in Mozambique.

Those who are granted a house from the project should refund it through monthly instalments of 40 U.S. dollars, for about 20 years, said the deputy minister. Enditem
