BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,571,559 on Friday as 36,595 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 139,188 as 540 COVID patients died since Thursday morning.

HOHHOT -- China's border city of Manzhouli reported three new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases in the past day, local health authorities said Friday.

The new cases were registered in Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Among them, one patient was re-categorized from a previously reported asymptomatic carrier, the regional health commission said.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President-elect Joe Biden said on Thursday that he will urge Americans to wear masks for his first 100 days after taking office.

"In the first day I'm inaugurated I'm going to ask the public for 100 days to mask," Biden told Jake Tapper, CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent, in an interview videotaped in Wilmington, Delaware.

NEW YORK -- The global COVID-19-related deaths have passed the 1.5 million mark, while the caseload worldwide has surpassed 65 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

As of 10:26 p.m. Thursday (0326 GMT Friday), the exact number of the coronavirus cases on the university's COVID-19 dashboard was 65,169,904, and the global death toll stood at 1,505,527.

JOHANNESBURG -- South Africa will impose additional restrictive measures in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in an effort to stem the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a televised address on Thursday.

Under the new rules, in addition to the existing Alert Level 1 regulations, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro will impose a curfew from midnight Thursday. Enditem
