PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen told the 31st extraordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday that the COVID-19 pandemic should not be politicized as solidarity and unity are indispensable to defeat the disease.

DHAKA -- Chinese-built factory has begun manufacturing concrete sleepers for a mega rail link project in Bangladesh connecting to the country's largest Padma bridge which was also being constructed by Chinese firms.

Built by the China Railway Group Limited (CREC), a world-leading construction conglomerate, the assembly work of the sleeper factory, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, was completed on Aug. 22 when it started production on a small scale. (Bangladesh-China-Factory)

SYDNEY -- The bushfire on the Fraser Island off the east coast of the Australian state of Queensland is still burning at multiple fronts while the high fire danger conditions are expected to last over the weekend in the area, a spokesperson from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said on Friday.

The bushfire, alleged of being started by an illegal campfire, has already burned about 82,000 hectares, roughly half the size of the World Heritage island, the spokesperson told Xinhua. (Australia-Bushfire)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,571,559 on Friday as 36,595 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 139,188 as 540 COVID patients died since Thursday morning. There are still 416,082 active cases in the country, while 9,016,289 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment, added the ministry's latest data.
