BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

WARSAW -- Poland confirmed on Saturday 12,430 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total caseload to 1,054,273, according to the country's health ministry.

The ministry also announced 502 new deaths from the virus, and the death toll in Poland went up to 19,861.

VIENNA -- Austria reported on Saturday 3,444 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total caseload to 300,689, according to data published by the Austrian Interior Ministry.

To date, the total COVID-19 death toll in Austria reached 3,757, said the ministry.

MADRID -- As of Saturday morning, Spain reported 8,745 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 1,684,647, the country's health ministry reported.

Meanwhile, 214 more COVID-19 deaths were recorded, taking the country's death toll from the disease to 46,252, it said.

Worldwide, Spain has the eighth highest number of COVID-19 infections and ninth highest record of deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

BEIJING -- One new imported COVID-19 case was reported in Beijing on Friday, the municipal health commission said Saturday.

The 44-year-old man from east China's Zhejiang Province arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport from Italy via Denmark on Tuesday. He tested negative for the coronavirus at the airport customs and was sent to a designated hotel for quarantine.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,896 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 145,279, the country's health ministry reported.

There have been 1,768 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 122,339, the ministry added.

So far, 1,198 people have died of the disease in the country, including eight over the past 24 hours, it said.

TEHRAN -- The COVID-19 epidemic has claimed 50,016 lives in Iran as of Saturday, with the total cases to 1,028,986 in the country, according to the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The ministry's spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari reported at daily briefing that 12,151 new COVID-19 infections had been confirmed in the past 24 hours with 321 new fatalities. Of the newly infected, 1,562 had to be hospitalized.

TOKYO -- The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Japan have increased by 2,497 to reach 160,906 as of Saturday night, according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities.

The figure excludes the 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo earlier in the year.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 6,027 within one day to 569,707, with the death toll adding by 110 to 17,589, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 4,271 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 470,449. Enditem
