TRIPOLI, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Interior Ministry of Libya's UN-backed government on Sunday said that it freed a doctor who was kidnapped in the capital Tripoli on Dec. 1.

Security forces arrested the kidnappers and freed the doctor, who is now in a good health condition, the ministry said in a statement.

Proper legal procedures were taken against the arrested kidnappers "so that fair legal penalty is taken against them," the statement added.

Siddiq Khalfallah Ben Della, a 66 year-old university professor and well-known orthopedic surgeon and deputy head of a local hospital, was kidnapped in Tripoli on Dec. 1 when his car was ambushed by four armed uniformed men, according to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

Libya has been mired in a state of insecurity and chaos following the ouster and killing of its late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Enditem
