DHAKA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's highest economic policy-making body has approved a road project worth 22.28 billion taka (about 259.04 million U.S. dollars).

The road project near capital Dhaka was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Shamsul Alam, senior secretary and member of General Economics Division at Bangladesh's Planning Commission under the Ministry of Planning, told the media that the ECNEC approved the project to widen an existing road and construct a "double-deck" road for establishing smoother communication between two districts -- Munshiganj and Narayanganj -- near the capital Dhaka.

Revealing the details of the "Widening of road from Panchaboti to Muktarpur and constriction of a double-deck road" project, he said that Bangladesh Bridges Authority under the Bridges Division will implement the project by June 2025.

The premier, however, asked the authorities concerned to implement the project within the stipulated timeframe and budget, said the official. (1 U.S. dollar equals about 86 Bangladeshi taka) Enditem
