TASHKENT, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan has exceeded 22.1 million, including over 19 million mobile Internet users, the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications said Friday.
Uzbekistan plans to increase the number to 34 million Internet users and cover 95 percent of its population with a broadband mobile network in the next two years, according to the ministry.
It added that about 20,000 km of fiber-optic cable lines would be installed by that time.
Under the government project to construct communication lines, the country has already installed 55,600 km of fiber-optic cables.
In 2021, the ministry will pay special attention to connect schools located in remote areas to the Internet, officials said. Enditem
