Iran reports 7,451 new COVID-19 cases, 1,108,269 in total

TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran confirmed on Sunday 7,451 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the tally in the country to 1,108,269, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The country also recorded 247 new deaths since Saturday, raising the death toll to 52,196, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, at her daily briefing.

Of the newly infected, 833 had to be hospitalized, the spokeswoman said.

A total of 812,270 COVID-19 patients have already recovered or been released from Iranian hospitals, while 5,723 others are currently in critical condition, Lari noted.

The number of laboratory tests for the virus carried out in Iran has reached 6,704,247 by Sunday, she added.

Currently, the risk of infection is high in 12 Iranian counties flagged with a red alert, while 288 counties are in orange alert, and 148 others at yellow level.
