AMMAN, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Finance Minister Muhammad Ississ on Tuesday said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board has approved the first review of Jordan's performance under a funding program of 1.3 billion U.S. dollars.
The minister said the approval highlights Jordan's commitment to carrying out structural reforms that can help realize economic recovery and growth, according to a statement by the Finance Ministry.
The minister voiced concern over the increase in unemployment rate, mainly among the youth, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which posed the largest challenge for the government.
He noted that the government's priority at the current stage is achieving economic recovery and growth to create more jobs.
According to a statement by the IMF, the completion of the first review will make funds of about 148 million U.S. dollars immediately available, which will bring total IMF disbursements to Jordan in 2020 to around 689 million dollars.
Jordan's four-year 1.3-billion-dollar program was approved by the IMF's board on March 25, 2020. Enditem
