SOFIA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- An international clarinet competition started here in the Bulgarian capital on Wednesday, this time it's online.

The competition in the name of Sava Dimitrov, who was the first to introduce in Bulgaria the clarinets from the Boehm system and builds up on it an original Bulgarian method of clarinet training, has attracted nearly 100 performers from all over the world, including three from China.

The entrants are competing in five age-based categories.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition is held online until Dec. 20. Winners will be announced on Saturday and Sunday in the two most competitive categories and the audience will be able to hear them perform and watch the award ceremony.

The competition committee provided awards of 50,000 BGN (about 31,164 U.S. dollars).

Prof. Dimitrov is the founder of the Bulgarian Clarinet School established over 70 years ago. The original Bulgarian method of clarinet training that he built up has been well-accepted in music teaching in several countries. Enditem
