LONDON -- British Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Sunday criticised people who escaped London before the new Tier Four lockdown came into force in the day as "totally irresponsible", the London-based Evening Standard newspaper reported.

The health secretary made the remarks after millions of people in London and the southeast were forced to tear up their Christmas plans due to the new tighter coronavirus restrictions.

"I think those scenes were totally irresponsible," Hancock said while speaking to the BBC. "We have all got a responsibility." (UK-Coronavirus)

ABUJA -- Nigerian police said on Sunday 80 students of a local Islamic school were rescued after their abduction by suspected bandits in the northwestern state of Katsina.

State police spokesperson Gambo Isah said in a statement reaching Xinhua that security operatives on late Saturday rescued 80 abducted pupils of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, an Islamic school in Mahuta, located in the Dandume area of the state.

They were kidnapped by a group of gunmen on their way back from an occasion celebrated at a nearby town on Saturday, Isah said, adding their abductors accosted them and tried to proceed to a forest when security operatives engaged them. (Nigeria-Police-Kidnapping)

BEIJING -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday extended condolences to Fijian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Voreqe Bainimarama over a devastating tropical cyclone.

In his message, Wang said he was shocked to learn about that Fiji has been hit by tropical cyclone Yasa, which has caused heavy property losses and casualties.

KATHMANDU -- Seven ministers from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government resigned on Sunday, expressing their disappointment at the move of the Cabinet to dissolve the parliament.

The ministers from Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal's faction within the party resigned, saying they cannot remain in the government which made the unconstitutional move to dissolve the House of Representatives.
