NEW DELHI -- The Indian government is gearing up for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout nationwide with a dry run for vaccine administration scheduled for next week in four states, officials said Friday.

The four states are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, and Punjab.

"As the vaccine administrators will play an important role in the vaccination process, training of trainers and those who shall administer the vaccine has been taken up across various states," the federal health ministry said in a statement. (India-Rollout-Vaccine)

MUMBAI -- Mumbai's civic authority is monitoring some 1,500 passengers who returned from Britain since Nov. 25 for a more contiguous strain of COVID-19.

A list of passengers has been shared with the civic officials across the city's 24 wards, civic ward officials said.

Ward officials have been told to prescribe reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests to these passengers if required, and the positive samples will be sent to the National Institute of Virology at Pune for genome sequencing to identify the new strain. MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Friday reported 1,885 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number in the country to 467,601.

The DOH said 307 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 430,791, and the death toll climbed to 9,062 after seven more patients died. (Philippines-COVID-19 Cases)

JAKARTA -- As many as 39 more doctors in Indonesia have died of COVID-19 from December 1 to 24, 2020, bringing the total death toll of doctors to 224, said the Indonesian Medical Association on Saturday.

Of the 224 doctors, 123 were general practitioners, 98 specialists, and three residents.

As many as 31 doctors or 14 percent who died were women, and 193 or 86 percent were men. (Indonesia-Doctors-COVID-19 Death)

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Friday recorded 81 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Of the total, 37 were local infections, 35 migrant workers and nine others imported cases. Most of the infected migrant workers were asymptomatic, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

So far, Thailand has reported 5,910 COVID-19 infections, with 1,308 of them reported in Myanmar migrant workers mostly employed in the fishing industry in Samut Sakhon province, where the latest outbreak originated. (Thailand-COVID-19 Cases) Enditem
