VIENTIANE, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government continued to closely monitor people entering Laos from abroad in order to prevent a second wave of COVID-19 in the country, a health official said on Friday.

Risk remained for Laos of a second wave of COVID-19 as some neighboring countries continued to combat outbreaks, Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Ministry of Health, Sisavath Soutthaniraxay, told a press briefing held in the Lao capital Vientiane.

On Thursday, a total of 3,165 people entered Laos through international border checkpoints with their body temperatures checked.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control urged people to continue to observe health guidelines against the COVID-19 pandemic including regularly washing hand and wearing a face mask when going outdoors and being in crowded places.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Laos remained at 41, and 37 patients have recovered from the viral disease, showed official data.

Four patients are being treated at Mittaphab Hospital (Hospital 150) in Vientiane.

Laos reported its first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 24. Enditem
