BANGKOK, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Thailand on Tuesday recorded 155 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, mostly local infections, official data showed.

Of the total, 134 were domestic infections, 11 others were reported in Myanmar migrant workers, and 10 were quarantined arrivals, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

CCSA's spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin also reported one new death from the coronavirus epidemic in Thailand, bringing the total death toll to 61.

He said 45 provinces of Thailand have each reported at least one confirmed COVID-19 case after the outbreak in the Samut Sakhon province 12 days ago.

Samut Sakhon, southwest of the capital Bangkok, and the eastern province Rayong were declared as regions under maximum control measures, the spokesman said.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has said that it will temporarily close its entertainment venues such as bars, karaoke lounges and sports arenas from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4, 2021 in its stepped-up efforts to curb the latest COVID-19 outbreak.

Restaurants in the capital city can still operate as long as they serve food and beverages in line with the new stricter regulations and close by midnight, the BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Thailand stands at 6,440 currently, with 4,184 recoveries. A total of 2,195 patents are being treated in hospitals. Enditem
