BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.54 percent, at 3,379.04 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.53 percent lower at 13,970.21 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 9.28 points, or 0.64 percent, to close at 1,461.95 points.

Some 22.53 billion shares worth 77.72 billion baht (about 2.59 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,634.99 down 8.91 points, or 0.54 percent and the Emas was at 11,806.59 down 41.32 points, or 0.35 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.28 percent, or eight points, to close at 2,848.14.

The STI index went down 0.07 percent, or 1.9 points, to close at 2,840.14 on Monday.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 253.86 points, or 0.96 percent, at 26,568.49 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,432.91 and 26,618.78. Turnover totaled 138.82 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 17.91 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, jumped by 1.6 percent to 13,247 on Tuesday.

The jump was led by Promisia Integrative Limited, which went up by 100 percent to 0.002 NZ dollars (0.0014 U.S. dollars), while New Zealand Oil & Gas Limited dropped by 29.73 percent to 0.52 NZ dollars.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 4.45 points, or 0.69 percent, to close at 647.18.

Among the seven trading stocks, the price of PPSP dropped by 5.47 percent to 0.3 dollar, while ABC and PWSA rose by 0.23 percent and 3.39 percent, respectively to 4.24 dollars and 1.51 dollars.

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks ended higher Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 11.91 points, or 0.42 percent, to settle at 2,820.51. Trading volume stood at 1.04 billion shares worth 19.1 trillion won (17.5 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Tuesday following a solid lead from U.S. markets which surged to record highs.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 35.50 points or 0.53 percent at 6,700.30, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 44.60 points or 0.64 percent at 6,962.10.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index hitting an over 30-year high, as hopes grew for direct payments under a new U.S. COVID-19 relief package to be expanded to 2,000 U.S. dollars per household from 600 U.S. dollars.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 714.12 points, or 2.66 percent, from Monday to close the day at 27,568.15, marking its highest closing level since Aug. 15, 1990. Enditem
