SARAJEVO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a loan agreement worth 340 million euros (416.6 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday to advance the construction of the pan-European Corridor Vc motorway, BiH's Ministry of Finance said.
The agreement was signed by Vjekoslav Bevanda, BiH's Minister of Finance, and Matteo Rivellini, the EIB's head of division in charge of lending operations in Croatia, Slovenia and the Western Balkans.
The funds will finance the construction of a 36-kilometer section of Corridor Vc between Poprikuse and Medakovo, some 130 km north of the capital Sarajevo.
"Each project related to the construction of the motorway is of great importance and each kilometer represents a step closer to Europe for us," Bevanda said.
The 702-km pan-European Corridor Vc will connect Hungary and northeastern Croatia in the north and the Adriatic Sea in the south, crossing BiH.
The longest section -- 335 kilometers -- of Corridor Vc will cross BiH from south to northeast. It is scheduled to be completed by 2030. So far, a 176-kilometer stretch has been completed or is being finalized. Enditem
