BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported 15 new imported cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the national tally to 172.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, all these new cases are part of a group of 81 people who arrived in Brunei on Dec. 21, 2020 from London, Britain. One of the cases started developing symptoms (sore throat) on Dec. 31, 2020, while the other cases showed no signs of infection.

All of the new cases are currently at the National Isolation Center for monitoring and treatment. Meanwhile, the contact tracing for the new cases are still being conducted.

With the detection of the latest cases, there are 20 active cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre and one case was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for intensive monitoring and treatment while the rest were in stable condition.

Meanwhile, 572 individuals who arrived in the country after traveling abroad are currently undergoing mandatory self-isolation at the monitoring centers.

There have been three deaths resulted from COVID-19 in Brunei and a total of 149 patients have recovered.

The Ministry of Health reminded the public not to be complacent in practicing their social responsibilities. The ministry also reminded the public to practice their social responsibilities by maintaining personal hygiene, practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette, recommended to wear face mask in crowded public places and if feeling unwell, not to go to public places and attend social gatherings.

The ministry said it will continue to monitor the situation of the outbreak at the national as well as regional and global level and will notify the public of any changes to this situation, if necessary from time to time. Enditem
