JERUSALEM, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Defense Ministry said on Sunday that it had completed the delivery of two anti-rocket Iron Dome systems to the U.S. Army.

The second of the two Iron Dome batteries was delivered over the weekend, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

The two batteries "will be employed in the defense of U.S. troops against a variety of ballistic and aerial threats," the statement read.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in the statement that the batteries will assist the U.S. Army in protecting its troops "from ballistic and airborne threats as well as from developing threats in the areas where U.S. troops are deployed on various missions."

In August 2019, Israel and the United States signed an agreement for the procurement of two Iron Dome Defense System batteries. The first battery was delivered in September 2020 and is already undergoing a process of implementation, according to the ministry.

The Iron Dome system was declared operational in 2011. Israel has used the system to intercept rockets fired toward its territory by militants in the Gaza Strip. Enditem
