MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Tuesday reported 937 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the country's total tally to 479,693.

The DOH has reported less than 1,000 daily increase for three straight days since Sunday. However, the department reiterated that the lower figures were due in part to a decrease in test samples submitted to COVID-19 laboratories during the new year holiday, adding that a rise in cases in the coming weeks is possible. TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said on Tuesday that a decision on whether to declare another state of emergency in Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures due to a resurgence of COVID-19 infections in these areas will be made on Thursday.

Government officials said that the emergency declaration is expected to take place from Thursday or Friday and is likely to be kept in place for roughly one month for Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa prefectures. (Japan-State of emergency-Decision)

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- Two Afghan army soldiers were killed and five others wounded in an insider attack in the country's eastern Ghazni province on Tuesday, the military confirmed.

The incident happened in Tawheed Abad army checkpoint, on the outskirts of provincial capital Ghazni city when comrades turned their guns against the victims roughly at 3:00 a.m. local time, the army's 203 Thunder Corps based in the region said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Insider Attack)

NEW DELHI -- India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday rolled out a dry run in all its 75 districts for vaccination against the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities said.

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Tuesday confirmed 527 new COVID-19 cases, most of which were reported in Myanmar migrants living in the central province of Samut Sakhon, official data showed.

Of the new cases, 521 were domestic infections, with 439 of them being reported in Myanmar migrants and Thai nationals in Samut Sakhon, where the latest coronavirus outbreak was first detected in Thailand, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin.
