TASHKENT, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's chemical company Uzkimyosanoat has opened an ammonia and urea production complex worth 985 million U.S. dollars to meet the growing domestic fertilizer demand, the country's energy ministry said Tuesday.

"This world-class industrial facility is another step towards natural gas modernization," Chairman of Uzkimyosanoat Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said in a statement.

The new complex will produce, at full capacity, 660,000 tons of ammonia and 577,500 tons of urea every year, increasing the output by 9.5 percent, the statement said.

According to the ministry, the complex will allow the country to meet domestic agricultural demand for fertilizers and to export it to neighboring countries as well as Turkey, Ukraine and Georgia. Enditem
