MOGADISHU, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and three others injured in a roadside blast in the restive city of Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, on Thursday, a police officer has confirmed.
The police officer said the explosion targeted a convoy of vehicles that were escorting prison commander Mahad Abidrahman Adan along the KM4 area in Mogadishu.
"One of the vehicles in the convoy hit an improvised explosive device, killing one person while three others were injured," said the officer who declined to be identified.
Al-Shabab which is fighting to overthrow the internationally-backed Somali government claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
The terror group was driven out of the capital Mogadishu in August 2011, but they are still in control of strongholds in the rural areas of southern and central regions, conducting ambushes and planting landmines. Enditem
