TEHRAN -- Iranian health authorities announced on Friday 6,251 new confirmed COVID-19 infections, taking the country's overall count to 1,274,514 cases so far.

Of the newly infected in the past 24 hours, 581 had to be hospitalized, the spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education Sima Sadat Lari said at her daily briefing, as reported by the ministry's official website. (Iran-COVID19)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday the mass vaccination process against the COVID-19 pandemic would soon start.

BEIRUT -- Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri discussed on Friday bilateral ties with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, said a statement by Hariri's office.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates announced on Friday that the country will reopen all its land, sea and air ports with Qatar starting from January 9.

According to the official WAM news agency, Khalid Abdullah Belhoul, Undersecretary of UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the country will begin to end all measures taken against Qatar, following the signing of the Al-Ula Declaration, which is considered an achievement.
