Afghanistan reports 12 more COVID-19 deaths, 84 new cases

KABUL, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of COVID-19 in Afghanistan has increased to 2,279 after 12 patients lost their lives within the past 24 hours, the country's Ministry of Public Health reported on Saturday.

The ministry also confirmed 84 new cases during the period, bringing the number of infected people across the country to 53,462 including 8,914 active cases, the ministry said in a statement.

Some 300 people recovered and were discharged from hospitals since early Friday, according to the ministry.

Laboratories across Afghanistan have completed 213,207 tests since the outbreak of the pandemic in February, according to the statistics of the ministry. Enditem
