NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- New York City's COVID-19 test positivity rate on a seven-day average went down to 8.77 percent, compared with 9.38 percent two days earlier, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Sunday. The mayor didn't announce such rate on Saturday.
Meanwhile, de Blasio said on Sunday that there were 251 new hospital admissions and 3,731 new cases of the coronavirus, adding that "Practice social distancing, wear a mask, and if you're eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, make an appointment to get vaccinated."
"Vaccine hubs are OPEN in Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. Eligible New Yorkers can get vaccinated for FREE, by appointment only," he said in another tweet.
As of Saturday afternoon, the coronavirus deaths added up to 25,505 and confirmed cases to 472,848 in NYC, according to The City, a project that tracks the spread of confirmed COVID-19 infections and fatalities in New York City, based on information provided by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the governor's office, The COVID Tracking Project and the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
