KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Monday that his country will start its first phase 3 clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines which involved a Chinese vaccine candidate following regulators' approval.
In a televised speech to announce tightened measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, Muhyiddin said the trials for the vaccine, developed by the Institute of Medical Biology under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, will start on Jan. 21. (Malaysia-China-Vaccine)

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's food and drug authority BPOM on Monday issued the emergency use authorization for Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine as the country will begin administering doses of COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday.
At a press conference, BPOM chief Penny Lukito said that the COVID-19 vaccine produced by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech, which had been tested in the phase 3 at Padjadjaran University, met the safety standards set by the World Health Organization. YANGON -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Myanmar has increased to 131,186 as of Monday as 582 new cases were reported, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 22 new imported COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 58,929.
On Monday, 32 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 58,668 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, the ministry said. (Singapore-COVID-19) Enditem
