TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Iranian football clubs Esteghlal and Persepolis shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the Tehran derby on Monday.
The match was held at Tehran's empty Azadi Stadium, and Esteghlal striker Arsalan Motahari was on target just a minute into the match after the Persepolis defenders made a mistake in the area.
Persepolis striker Mehdi Abdi also benefitted from Esteghlal defenders' mistakes in the 51st minute and found the back of the net.
Vahid Amiri of Persepolis scored in the 66th minute but Esteghlal forward Mehdi Ghaedi leveled the score in the dying minutes with a powerful strike in the area.
Esteghlal remain second in the table with 19 points and a game in hand, while Persepolis are eighth with 12 points and two games in hand.
It was Persepolis' fourth successive draw in the Iranian Professional League. Enditem
